Costa Rica - Canada: A successful goods trade model

The trade relations between Costa Rica and Canada have become one of the strongest and most promising in Central America; both nations signed a free trade agreement in 2002, which promoted the increase of trade and investments.

In 2023, the trade exchanges between the two countries reached more than one billion Canadian dollars, reflecting their close economic cooperation and mutual interest in expanding their commercial ties.

In 2023, the Canadian exports to Costa Rica were valued at 319.9 million Canadian dollars, with a diverse range of products including fisheries and agricultural products, electronic and electrical equipment, consumer goods, minerals, and plastics.

Meanwhile, imports from Costa Rica to Canada totaled 720.4 million Canadian dollars. The products that stand out in this category are mainly agricultural products such as tropical fruits, coffee, frozen fruits, pineapples, fruit juices and concentrates,, as well as electronic and electrical equipment, consumer goods, motor vehicle parts, and plastics.

With consistent growth in exports and robust cooperation, both countries are well positioned to continue expanding their trade relations, generating significant benefits for their economies and citizens.
