UK offers benefits for Costa Rican sustainable agricultural products

According to the newspaper La Nación the United Kingdom promised to facilitate Costa Rica's entry into its market of agricultural products obtained without deforestation or through low-emission schemes,information confirmed by Franz Tattenbach Capra, Minister of Environment and Energy and chief of the Costa Rican delegation that participated in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27).

The pact between Costa Rica and the United Kingdom, adds the newspaper, could mean:

  • - Elimination of taxes for Costa Rican products
  • - Cooperation to launch a country brand
  • - Funds for agriculture to produce without soil erosion or damage to forests, water sources or diversity

In 2021 Costa Rica exported $230 million to the United Kingdom of which 84% were agricultural goods such as pineapple, watermelon, melon, cassava, coffee and frozen fruits.
